grace of spades (noun): native new yorker, DJ, phoptographer, writer, music enthusiast, art appreciater.

Grace of Spades is a 3rd generation New Yorker, raised by a village of artists and musicians in lower Manhattan. As a result, she was exposed to the various scenes of the city at a young age and was typically found at live music events on school nights. Her father, a long time staple in the NYC punk scene, encouraged all genres of music; he passed along his passion for sounds of the 60′s & 70′s, along with his wall of vinyl, which immediately instigated her quest for collections of her own. Starting with early Soul and R&B, she developed a taste for Jamaican music of the late 60′s and has dedicated most of her collecting to build her repertoire in that genre. Only recently did her mother confess to blasting Bob Marley to put her to sleep as a child. Using her father’s records as a base, along with encouragement from fellow DJ’s around New York, she embarked into the world of spinning vinyl and procured weekly gigs by the age of 19. At 21, she now holds several residencies in well-respected nightclubs throughout New York City.
